It's Hot!

July 2010

We moved into a cute house in Rancho Bernardo only weeks after having Ewan and only about 10 houses away from Donald's parents. It's a wonderful neighborhood and we are directly across the street from a wonderful elementary school and the neighborhood club which includes a playground, tennis courts, basketball court, Jr Olympic size pool and Jacuzzi as well as kiddy pool, and racket ball courts. It's wonderful! We have a lovely little back and front yard and with our 2 story, three bedroom house. And our rent is less than what we were paying for a tiny little 2 bedroom apartment downtown. Aaah the joys of North County. Oh wait and it's a tad warm :)

A big thank you to Holly, Dave (Kung Fu Panda), Joe(cool), Kevin(you are not), Andra, Grandma and Grandpa (Sugar Lou), and Grandma and Grandpa (Honey Bunny) for all the help getting us into our new place! We couldn't have done it with out you ♥

Del Mar Fair

June 20, 2010

If packing boxes to move, having a new baby in the house and a c-section weren't enough to keep me busy it was father's day and we were off to the Del Mar Fair less than 2 weeks after Ewan was born. It has been an annual tradition to go to the fair on father's day and I didn't want to disappoint Donald or Emma. So off to the fair we went.

First stop was the farm animals, before heading to the exhibit halls and food.

Emma found a lovely umbrella to match Ewan's stroller and Grandma was all too happy to get it for her.
Then came the food. Donald really wanted to try the chocolate covered bacon....brave man.
We should have gone home then and there, but stayed for a bite to eat. It was hot and I was exhausted. But had some fried foods which made me sick for the next 24 hours. I went to my OBGYN and he said it was silly of me to brave the fair so soon after surgery and that the food just did me in. No more fried food for me for a while and no more overdoing it until Ewan is at least 2 to 3 months old.

Family LOVE

June 2010
Ewan enjoyed peaceful sleep right from the start from all the family love he was surrounded by.

Oh and of course Emma's endless kisses.

Getting in some love and exercise with Grandpa and Emma

Taking a nap with Grandma

Enjoying the comfort of Grandpa.
But nothing is better than the love and bond Emma and Ewan were forming right from the start. Emma wanted to help in any way she could and constantly begged to hold "her baby" or "her best friend"

Daddy Gets Better!

June 13, 2010

There was great rejoicing by the 13th as Donald was really starting to feel more like himself again. He even helped my dad with making homemade pizza's and did this pizza all by himself. Was so thrilled to see him up and about and acting more like himself again. He went back to work just a week after Ewan was born. My mom and dad were still in town and he was going to let them stay at home with me and help pack up the house because we were moving to Rancho Bernardo just a few weeks after Ewan was born. My mom and dad were amazing not only taking care of me but helping with the packing. Every night my dad and Donald would take a load to the house we were going to rent and drop off a ton of boxes. After the move was complete my parents were going to go back home to Colorado and Donald would take off 2 more weeks to spend with us settling into the new house. Ugh....like having a baby let alone a c-section isn't enough for one month why not throw in a move too!

Grandpa and Grandma Fun

June 2010

Having my mom and dad there wasn't just all about helping us out with our new baby Ewan. There was a lot of fun to be had and be had by Emma. She was loving Every minute of entertainment.

From tickle attacks

To story time

to makbelieve time

to getting fancy.

We Got To Go Home!

June 9, 2010

After just a few short days in the hospital and a huge thanks to modern medicine (internal dissoluble staples) Ewan and I were released! My mom had been so wonderful and helpful in the hospital and the nurse staff and lactation nurses and my wonderful South African OBGYN were all very amazing, but we were all looking forward to sleeping in our own beds and getting to see daddy! Before I left the hospital I was doing laps around the floor and taking care of Ewan on my own. I was doing tons better than when I had Emma and was so thrilled with my speedy recovery.

Donald was feeling good enough to come and pick me and Ewan up and my Dad took my mom and Emma home to get things ready for our arrival. I even walked out of the hospital on my own with out a wheelchair.

When we got home the first thing we did was hand the baby over to Emma. There was so much love and joy in her little body I don't know how she contained herself long enough to hold still and just enjoy her new baby brother.

Donald Gets Really Sick

June 7, 2010

We were blessed with visitors, Auntie Andra and Uncle Kevin, and my good friend Lisa came that night while Donald was at home tucking Emma into bed. My dad was there with me and Lisa and I thought it was so cute to watch my dad take care of Ewan and change his diaper even if he did put it on backwards.

We had a great first night in the hospital, well I did and so did Ewan. But Donald was a whole other story. He wasn't feeling great that evening but by morning early early morning he was throwing up in the bathroom. He finally admitted defeat and told me that he had to go to the doctors, that something was not right. So Donald and my mom switched places by 7 AM. My mom came and stayed with me the remainder of my days in the hospital. Holly and Dave came to bring a bit of cheer and meet our new little man that second day, but after that I just wasn't up for any more visitors, I just wanted to get better so I could go home to be with Donald. Donald ended up with a virus that attacks the nervous system called vestibular neuronitis. He was knocked out solid for about 4 days on medication . He hated not being able to be at the hospital for Ewan and me and complained on the phone several times about how sorry he was that he couldn't be there for us. I just kept thanking God that Ewan came one day early otherwise Donald would have been too sick to see his baby born.
