3 Funny things

Funny things happened this weekend. It all started when I got carded at a restaurant on Friday night. I am seriously way too old looking and haven't gotten carded since we left for London 3 years ago. I was laughing so hard that when I was asked what my eye colors were I actually had to think about it.
Then on Saturday morning at breakfast Donald was so helpful in cleaning up Emma by taking her toast and using it to scrape across her body to clean off the yogurt that had dripped on her naked belly. Oh, if only I had the video camera handy.
But the best was on Sunday when we were on the way back from the beach and we saw a car that airbrushed pictures of their children on the tailgate. We were thinking maybe we should do this to our Mazda 5. We would love to hear what all our loyal blog readers think. Please let us know. Below are the pictures we were able to capture on Donald's cell phone while driving down the 5.

Modern Mermaid

Emma is our modern mermaid, complete with O'Neill swim top and fun washable swim diapers. And if you notice from the images below, she is wearing a hat!! I think it finally got bright enough and hot enough that she is realizing the benefits to a hat! Donald got her a little blowup innertube and she loves it, it gives her freedom in the pool and makes her feel like a big girl.

Dinner at the Yacht Club

We went to dinner at Grandpa's Yacht club last night. It was a wonderful way to get out of the heat in North County. It was cool and comfortable. We had to wake Emma a bit early to make it to dinner on time, but it was worth the wake up pictures below.

On the way to the Yacht Club in Point Loma we taught Emma to say boat and sail. But saying sailboat was just too big of a word right now. When we got there we enjoyed drinks on the patio with Aunt Andra, soon to be Uncle Kevin, and Grandma. Grandpa was busy cleaning the boat, but did join us for a wonderful dinner in the dinning room.

Aunt Andra played airplane and "I'm going to get you" in the lawn before dinner with her "little L"

After all that running and playing Aunt Andra brought Emma back for some of Kevin's lemonade and a slice of lemon
Grandma and Emma spotted a family of ducks which thrilled Emma to bits
And thankfully the Yacht Club has a bit of a play area and Emma had to try out each bouncy toy

Summer Concert

Summer is here and boy can you tell by the temperature outside soaring in the 90's and in some areas of San Diego in the 100's as I type this. On Friday we thought that it would be a great idea to spend the first day of summer boiling in the heat at the first summer concert of the year in Carlsbad. Even though we didn't get to the park until 5:20, the temperature was still amazingly hot. Donald, Mike, Emma and I met up with some special friends who have a little boy (Lucas) who was born 1 year to the day before our little Emma. It's great for me, because Lukas's mom (Jennifer) can tell me what to expect and how to deal with milestones and development since Lucas has just gone through all of what Emma is about to. You can read more about Jennifer, Lucas, and Rich at their blog Mauser Family Blog

I love this shot! I had just finished dressing Emma for the concert and we were deciding which bow to wear and she had the best smile going. It's a bit shy for her big personality, but it's very enduring!

Jennifer is going to have her second baby boy in about a month, and she dealt with the heat much better than me, Emma, and Donald! We were a sweaty mess by the time the shade hit our backs, and Jennifer looked cool and comfortable. Jennifer was also amazing since she didn't seem to mind sharing her lap with her little boy Lucas and Emma in all that heat.
Emma also found Rich's hat quit fascinating as well as daddy's Hanse hat. It has been such a struggle to get Emma to wear a hat that any time she does there is great rejoicing. And it helps so much for her to see others wearing hats too.

Cooking Lesson

Emma really loves it when we cook, and of course that is such a dangerous place for her to be. We try to include her when we can and she loves it. We give her safe cooking items to play with and she really feels like she is getting to do something too!

Emma At Play

Below are some fun images of Emma playing. It is so fun to watch her imagination start to grow!

Grandma got Emma this wonderful Tea Set and she really enjoys it when mommy takes it out for her to play with. Daddy and Emma were playing on Monday together, but I didn't take any pictures because we had just gotten back from the pool and we all looked a little ragged and wet still (just picture visiting Daisy and Anslo from Keeping up Appearances and Anslo with out a vest on). Below Emma is treating some of her favorite stuffed toys to an afternoon snack.

We are so thrilled that Emma has figured out how to push her pink car around. I love that she has to put on her pink hat before she takes off for a ride around the house. I can't get her to wear a hat any other time, which makes me really sad when it's sunny out and really want her more covered.
After a busy day of play, Emma can't wait for Daddy to come home. They have a snack which usually consists of cheese (thank you Michael) and sparkling water (Dr Neglia says it's OK). Emma excitedly tells daddy all about her day, and daddy is such a good listener.

Water Sports

Yes, summer is almost here and the heat has already gotten the best of us. So we have been enjoying lots of water time. In the mornings its off to San Elijo Hills Park. They have a wonderful water sprinkler play area for the kids to run through and then after Emma's nap we are off to the pool. Emma can now say both pool and park along with a host of other new words including but of course not limited to0... shoes, sit, all right, grandpa, plane, cool, cold, hot, oh yes!, truck, bubble, bow, ball, weeeee, and our absolute new favorite PLEASE!! Donald worked really hard and Emma now knows that if she really wants something (like Daddy's sparkling water) all she has to do is say please and our hearts melt and we comply. She has also gotten good at simple commands, some of our favorites are... bring it to me, give it to mommy, sit down, come inside, come here, put it back, put it away, and kiss kiss. And I think Emma has come up with a nickname for Daddy, HUG is what she says every time she sees him, she still calls him Daddy, but hug seems to be a popular favorite. Below are a few recent pictures from the last two days, expect more water fun as the summer draws near.

Daddy's Day!!

We went to the Del Mar Fair for Daddy's special day! Emma had no idea where we were going (even though I tried to explain) she cried just a bit when we didn't turn to go to the park. But it didn't take long to bring a smile to her chubby little cheeks as soon as we started making animal noises.

The ride there

The big robot at the entrance, just loved Emma, she wasn't so sure about him, but she did fine

Checking out the live stock with the family

Doing a bit of shopping
And those fab sunglasses at lunch

New Hair

I have been trying to put Emma's hair up in new ways. Here is a few shots of her two little buns.

Outside looking at flowers. We are so happy she doesn't pick them, so far she just likes to look and sometimes gently touch.
